Two gruesomely entertaining stories from the Misery Theater library told by your host, Minford the elderly man in a grey suit. Each one reads in just over half an hour. Perfect for in between novel reading or long waits at appointments. **Note** Misery Theater is presented like a television show such as Tales from the Crypt and Twilight Zone. There's irony, blood, gore, and sometimes (depending on the tale) a little humor. I hope you enjoy this first instalment!

Anthony Puyo Presents Misery Theater Issue 1 edition by Anthony Puyo Literature Fiction eBooks

Misery Theater is a serialization of short stories. This installment is a pilot issue and contains two stories: Happy Endings and Angry. Happy Endings is the tale of a serial killer and what happens when he picked up his latest victim. Angry is a cautionary tale of too little too late and what happens when you take advantage of people.

This is a quick and easy read for fans of the horror genre that will leave you satisfied, but you'll be begging for the next set of stories. They aren't your typical literary work. .Though it isn't a script, it still feels like you're reading an episode of your favorite horror anthology and you can expect a bizarre moral of the story ending to each tale.

This is horror at its finest and Anthony Puyo doesn't pull any punches with the gore. He is so descriptive I often forgot that I wasn't watching a slasher film. He develops his characters very well in such a short amount of time. Even someone as horrible as the writer in the second story I began to feel sympathetic towards and thought he could be redeemed.

I would give this a five out of five.stars. Excellent story development but definitely not for someone with a weak stomach.

Anthony Puyo Presents Misery Theater Issue 1 edition by Anthony Puyo Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Although the first story didn't capture me as well as i have liked, i did enjoy the characters sarcastic dialogue. Now, the second story really entertained me with it's humor and set- back into a time only reminiscent of the black and white televised theater.A + 👍👍
Really enjoyed the two short stories. In a short write, the author creates characters that are easily disliked! But yet wanting more. Gruesome and entertaining! A recommended read.
This was definitely worth the 5 stars I gave it. I felt pulled into to the stories.I didn't want to stop reading. It is definitely a reminder of a tales from the crypt show, I could honestly picture Alfred Hitchcock reading this book out loud. I can't wait to read more of Anthony Puyo's books.
I really like the format of these stories. Reminds me of one of those old horror shows like Tales from the Crypt. I would recommend this read to anyone who likes the horror genre. Good descriptions and I even cringed at one part! Which for me is a good thing.
My friend has recommended this author in the past so when I saw this book was free on , I was excited to read it. I haven't read a whole lot of horror in a few years and I am slowly making my way back. It is two short stories of the macabre , of just the right length. There are a few typos, but it doesn't take away from the story. All in all I enjoyed them and look forward to reading more from this author.
Anthony Puyo is an emerging author who has no qualms about trying out new things in the horror game. Misery Theatre is a pilot episode… for a book. It is set up so that you truly feel as though you’re watching a T.V. show. This idea is novel and surprisingly underused considering most people hallucinate vividly, much like staring at images from a screen, while reading. Puyo opened many doors with his pilot. Using two different stories within the pilot was a wonderful idea- he showed his versatility and left the opportunities for the next episodes (and there had better be some!) wide open.
The first story of the two featured in the pilot was my favorite. Dale is one of those characters who are extremely likable despite his despicable nature. If I’m honest, his despicable nature is somewhat endearing. Puyo describes Dale’s acts of violence romantically. My heart- black as it may be- swelled with Dale’s. The ending was unexpected and delightfully creepy.
The second story was very good, too. I didn’t fall immediately in love with it the way I did with the first. This is only because the character was less likable. Still, the story was riveting and charmingly gruesome. This story also had some fun whimsy Puyo breaks up a gory description by comparing a neck wound to a Pez dispenser. Admittedly, you’ve got to be a bit of a horror freak like I am to see the amusement in such similes, but for me it WORKED.
My only complaint about the pilot is that appeared to me to be a little bit “messy”. There were some mistakes that would have been picked up with closer editing. However, once you are absorbed in the story and “watching the show”, these little things disappear entirely.
I am looking forward to Anthony Puyo continuing with this series- and I feel confident that he will. This series is designed for those of us who not only are capable of stomaching the sick stuff, but crave it. The pilot was far from satisfying. It served to arouse this craving and leave us asking for more.
Two tales of a ghost seeking vengeance and a crime writer turned murderer tied together in a neat package by a gruesome shaving blade and a narrator eerily reminiscent of Rod Serling. Short book gave me pause from when the serial killer carved into the young woman's face exposing both bone and molars. Noted some minor editing glitches in my copy which might already be rectified including "are" for "our" (location 28), "gages" for "gauges" (location 211) and "hurst" for "hearse" (location 394), but didn't distract any from the stories and am looking forward to more grisly chillers from this author in the future!
